  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A 18-year-old male presented with moderateproptosis in his right eye. Two weeks later, theproptosis exacerbated along with swelling of theeye region and fever of 40℃. Systemic antibioticsfailed to halt the progression of proptosis and thefever. The patient developed liver dysfunction, hepatosplenomegaly, hemorrhagic diathesis andexhausted systemic appearance. Panniculitis with-out subcutaneous nodules became manifest. Biopsyof orbital tissue showed marked infiltration offoamy histiocytes and led to the diagnosis of sys-temic Weber-Christian disease. While massive sys-temic corticosteroid alone was ineffective, addi-tional cyclosporine A induced amelioration of sys-temic conditions and regression of proptosis.
