  • Look Inside

We evaluated the shape of midperipheral cornea in 21 eyes after cataract surgery with phacoemul-sification and posterior lens implantation. A photo-keratoanalyzer was used to document the corneal curvature at 8 points. The corneoscleral incision measured 7 mm in 10 eyes and 3.9 mm in 11 eyes.

In the 7 mm group, the corneal curvature at the center became steeper along the vertical meridian and flatter along the horizontal one on day 7 after surgery. The curvature became steeper along the vertical meridian and closer to the site of incision. In the 3.9 mm group, there was no difference between the vertical and horizontal meridians. The smaller corneoscleral incision thus resulted in sig-nificantly minor postoperative deformity of the cornea.
