Abstract Purpose:To report outcome of glaucoma tube shunt surgeries with different coatings up to 2 years.

Cases and Method:A total of 30 eyes of 29 patients received straight-type tube-shunt surgery by a single surgeon during the past 4 years. Twenty eyes were inserted with Ahmed implant and 20 eyes were inserted with Baeveldt implant. Autologous scleral flap was used as tube covering in 13 eyes and donor graft sclera in 17 eyes. IOP averaged 34.2±6.9 mmHg in the former group and 32.5±6.9 mmHg in the latter. There was no difference in age, history of ocular surgery, or intraocular pressure(IOP)before surgery. They were followed up to 2 years after tube-shunt surgery.

Results:IOP after 24 months averaged 14.5±3.3 mmHg in eyes implanted with autologous scleral flap and 16.7±3.7 mmHg in eyes with donor graft sclera. IOP was significantly higher after 6, 12 and 18 months after surgery in the latter group. Visibility of the tube increased during the 2 years in the former group and remained unchanged in the latter.

Conclusion:IOP was well-controlled group after tube-shunt surgery irrespective of the covering. Tube covering became thinner in eyes ingrafted with autologous sclera, suggesting the tube may be exposed later.
