Abstract Purpose:To report the discrepancy between refractive values with auto refractometer and subjective ones in eyes implanted LENTIS® Comfort intraocular lens(IOL).

Methods:Thirty seven eyes of 22 cataract patients were consecutively implanted with LENTIS® Comfort IOL. Predicted postoperative refractive value was −0.12±0.09D(mean±standard deviation)diopter. All of those eyes had no ocular disorder without cataract and refractive error before surgery. There was no intraoperative complication. The IOL was implanted in the capsular bag and the axis of it was adjusted to 6 to 12 o'clock in all of the cases. One day, 1 week and 1 month postoperatively, refraction was measured with auto-refractometer. Corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA)was measured on the basis of subjective refractive values.

Results:One week postoperatively, mean UDVA and mean CDVA improved to logMAR 0.04±0.10(p<0.001, t-test), logMAR−0.01±0.07(p<0.001, t-test)respectively. Refractive values with auto-refractometer were S−0.67±0.50D and C−0.97±0.58D, whereas S−0.10±0.23D and C−0.41±0.55D subjectively. One month postoperatively, mean UDVA and mean CDVA was logMAR 0.03±0.09, logMAR−0.01±0.05 respectively. Refractive values with auto refractometer were S−0.42±0.46D and C−1.04±0.59D, whereas S−0.01±0.28D and C−0.35±0.54D subjectively.

Conclusion:One month after surgery in the spherical equivalent, there was the significant discrepancy of −0.75D between refractive values with auto refractometer and subjective ones in eyes implanted LENTIS® Comfort IOL(p<0.001 t-test).
