バヌアツ・ボランティア医療活動における手持ちオートレフラクトメータの有用性

Usefulness of hand-held automatic refractometer in volunteer medical activities in Vanuatu

　バヌアツ共和国でボランティア医療活動を行った患者405人のうち165人について，手持ち自動屈折計を使った屈折検査を行った。右眼の屈折異常は，遠視75眼，正視31眼，近視59眼であった。等価球面法による屈折異常値は＋2.75Dから−5.00Dで，平均値は＋0.05D±1.01D （平均値±標準偏差）であり，遠視が多かった。今回用いたレチノマックスは，操作が簡便であり，携帯可能で，検者による差がなく，明所でも測定でき，検査結果が印刷されるなどの利点がある。医療環境が悪くても，電源さえ確保できれば，多数の患者について簡便かつ迅速に正確な屈折検査ができた。また，一般診療の視力検査とともに，眼鏡処方や白内障手術後の管理にも有用であった。

We performed refractometry in 165 out of 405 patients within the framework of volunteer medical activities in Vanuatu.We used a hand-held refractometer,RetinomaxR.The refractive status of 165 right eyes were :hyperopia 75 eyes,emmetropia 31 eyes and myopia 59 eyes.The refractive errors ranged from+2.75 D to-5.00 D, average+0.05 D±1.01D. The current refractometer was easy to operate, portable and free errors by individual examiners. It could be used in daylight and gave data in printing. It was thus possible to do refractometry easily, rapidly and correctly in remote areas if only power source was available. It was also useful in prescribing eyeglasses and examination after cataract surgery.
