Abstract. Purpose:To report the retinal sensitivity and reading speed before and after insertion of multifocal intraocular lens(IOL). Cases and Method:This study was made on consecutive 20 eyes of 10 cases who received insertion of AcrySofTMReSTORTM in both eyes. The age ranged from 57 to 79 years, average 69 years. They were tested by central 30-2 SITA-fastTM of Humphrey Field AnalyzerTM and by MNREAD-JTM before and one month after surgery. Results:Mean deviation of retinal sensitivity and pattern standard deviation show greater fluctuations after surgery. Mean deviation improved after surgery(p<0.03). Maximum reading speed in the naked eye after surgery changed by +39% to -33% compared with that in the corrected eye before surgery. The difference was not significant. Conclusion:Retinal sensitivity improved after insertion of multifocal IOL. Reading speed did not change significantly after surgery.
