Abstract Purpose:To report the incidence and age distribution of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment treated at Sakura Hospital located at Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture.

Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 511 cases of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment treated during the past 3 years through March 2019. Cases were evaluated regarding their residence, age distribution, and refraction. Excluded were eyes with macular hole detachment, traumatic retinal detachment, or proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

Findings:The whole series of 511 eyes comprised 337 males and 174 females. There were 88 cases, including 55 males and 33 females, who were residents of Sakura City. Of these 88 cases, 35 cases were seen in 2016, 28 in 2017, and 25 in 2018. The incidence per 100,000 population was 19.78, 15.86 and 14.20 respectively. The overall incidence over the 3 years was 16.62. The age distribution showed a peak in the 6th decade. When seen as a whole, the 511 cases included more light and moderate myopia than in the general pupulation.

Conclusion:Cases of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in Sakura City were younger than reported hitherto and showed a peak in the 6th decade.
