Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of minimal surgery for retinal detachment. Cases and Methods:This retrospective study was made on 72 eyes of 72 patients who received scleral buckling for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment during a 45-month period. Subretinal fluid was aggressively drained in 38 eyes during first 2 years(group D)and not as possible in 34 eyes after then(group ND). Results:Initial reattachment was obtained in 35 eyes(92.1%)in group D and in 30 eyes(88.2%)in group ND. Two eyes in group ND had bullous retinal detachment in the superior quadrant and underwent inadequate buckling. Eventual reattachment was obtained in 38 eyes(100%)in group D and in 33 eyes(97.1%)in group ND. There was no intra-or postoperative complication in group ND. Conclusion:Minimal surgery is safe and effective for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.
