Incidence of retinal tear and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment among bank clerks

（17-P1-4）　某都市銀行職員19,912名に対しアンケートまたはカルテによる調査を行い，網膜剥離，網膜裂孔の既往の有無を調査した。網膜剥離，裂孔の既往のあったものはそれぞれ25名，23名であった。1993年度の職員の網膜剥離の発生率は人口10万人対25人，網膜裂孔の発見率は35人であった。網膜剥離の発生率の高かった理由は，母集団において剥離の好発年齢層が多かったことのほか，地域性，高学歴などの母集団の特徴が考えられた。網膜剥離の予後は93％が治癒したと答えており，おおむね良好であった。しかし治療結果に不満な例も多く，また何らかの日常生活上の制限を余儀なくされた症例が43％と高かった。就業年齢層の人々にとって，網膜剥離は発生頻度も比較的高く，社会的，精神的負担は決して無視できないものと考えられた。

We surveyed the incidence of retinal tear and retinal detachment among clerks in a bank by sending question-naires or checking clinical records. Out of 19,912 clerks, 25 had retinal detachment and 23 had retinal tear in the past. The incidence per 100,000 population during 1993 was 25 for retinal detachment and 35 for retinal tear. The high incidence of retinal detachment appeared to be due to age distribution, urban life style and high academic career of the surveyed group. Retinal detachment had cured in 93% of patients. Many patients were not satisfied with the outcome of treatment. The daily activities had to be restricted in 43%. The findings show a relatively high incidence of retinal detachment among bank clerks with social and mental consequences.
