Abstract Purpose:To describe the clinical features, treatment and recurrence of patients with new-onset acute Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada(VKH)disease.

Methods:Clinical records of 33 patients who presented between 2013 and 2016 to Juntendo Urayasu Hospital.

Results:Of the 33 patients(22 women, 11 men), serous retinal detachment type(49 eyes)and optic disc hyperaemia type(17 eyes)were observed at presentation. Initial corticosteroid treatment consisted of intravenous pulse therapy all patients. Treatment was changed to cyclosporine and subtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide for persistent inflammation, with good subsequent outcome. The recurrence rate of inflammation in serous retinal detachment type was 8.2%, whereas that of optic disc hyperaemia type was 29.4%.

Conclusions:Combined therapy with corticosteroid and cyclosporin resulted in low rate of recurrence. Cases with optic papillitis as the outstanding feature showed higher rate of recurrence than those with serous retinal detachment.
