Abstract Purpose: To report and compare findings by fundus autofluorescence in central serous retinopathy(CSC)and age-related macular degeneration(AMD)with serous retinal detachment.

Cases and Method: This retrospective study was made on 24 eyes with CSC and 14 eyes with AMD and serous retinal detachment. The age of patients with CSC ranged from 33 to 68 years, average 48 years. The age of patients with AMD and serous retinal detachment ranged from 59 to 76 years, average 67 years. All the eyes were evaluated for autofluorescence by Canon CX-1 fundus camera.

Findings: Fluorescein angiography in eyes with CSC showed inkblot leakage in 19 eyes, and upward leakage in 5 eyes. All the eyes with AMD showed occult choroidal neovascularization(CNV). Fundus autofluorescence showed hypofluorescence at the site of dye leakage in 23 out of 24 eyes with CSC. Autofluorescence showed dot-like pattern in 16 eyes, fused dot-like pattern in 5 eyes, and branched pattern in 2 eyes. All the eyes with AMD showed hypoautofluorescence at the sites of occult CNV seen by fluorescein angiography. The hypoautofluorescence showed branched pattern in 12 eyes, geographic pattern in 1 eye, and dot-like pattern in 1 eye.

Conclusion: Eyes with CSC showed, predominantly, dot-like or fused dot-like hypoautofluorescence. Eyes with AMD often showed branched pattern of hypoautofluorescence.
