Abstract Purpose:To report a 2-year outcome of treatment with orthokeratology for myopia in children aged 5 and 6 years.

Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 18 eyes of 9 children who were treated with orthokeratology in the past 2 years. All the eyes had myopia of−0.5 diopters or greater. Another series of 20 eyes of 10 children who received no treatment served as control.

Results:The treated eyes showed, after 2 years, significant improvements in unaided visual acuity and mean spherical equivalent power. There was no change in corneal endothelial cell density after 2 years(p=0.643). The treated eyes showed significantly lesser change in axial length than controls(p<0.001). No severe complication developed during 2 years of treatment with orthokeratology.

Conclusion:There was no decrease in corneal endothelial cell density, no severe complication and apparently suppressed elongation of axial length during 2 years of treatment with orthokeratology. The findings suggest that orthokeratology is effective and safe for children aged 5 and 6 years.
