Abstract Purpose:It is known that physical exercise, smoking cessation, and dietary supplementation are effective in preventing the progression of glaucoma. In this study, we investigated patients with glaucoma in terms of their health management practices, dietary supplementation status, and their desire for supplement recommendations, all with the aim of enhancing their treatment efficacy.

Patients and Methods:We conducted a retrospective study of patients who visited our clinic from November 2021 to March 2022 and completed a questionnaire during their visual field tests. We gathered data from the medical records of these patients.

Results:We examined a total of 393 patients with an average age of 68 years. A total of 331 individuals(84.2%)responded they were engaging in at least one health management activity, with “Exercise” being the most common. A total of 145 individuals(36.9%)reported current supplement intake. The most common sources of their supplement information, in order of frequency, were “Family & Acquaintances,” “Magazines & Advertisements,” and “Television.” A total of 142 individuals(37.3%)expressed a desire for supplement recommendations from their physicians.

Conclusion:In the present study, approximately 80% of patients were found to be engaged in health management activities, with a supplement uptake rate of 40%. Additionally, around 40% of patients expressed a desire for supplement recommendations from their physicians.
