Abstract. Purpose:To report long-term outcome of orthokeratology for myopia and to identify problems of this therapeutic modality. Cases:This retrospective study was made on 49 eyes of 25 cases who received orthokeratology during a 43-month period and who could be followed up for 600 days or longer. The series comprised 28 male and 21 female eyes. The age ranged from 8 to 41 years, average 19 years. Myopia was within -3 diopters in 12 eyes, up to -6 diopters in 26 eyes, and up to -9 diopters in 11 eyes. Results:Uncorrected visual acuity improved to 1.0 or over in all the 49 eyes. There was a tendency for the therapeutic effect to continue up to one year and to decline after 600 days. Renewal of contact lens was effective to improve the effect. Conclusion:Patients ought to be advised that the effect may not be permanent before starting orthokeratology for myopia.
