Abstract Purpose:To evaluate the postoperative refractive error of the Sulcus-Subcapsular fixation(SSF)technique for intraocular lens(IOL)implantation(i.e., fixing the haptics to the ciliary sulcus and the optic to below the anterior or posterior capsule)in patients with difficult IOL fixation. This included patients experiencing posterior capsular rupture or zonular weakness.

Methods:We retrospectively evaluated refractive error at 3 months postoperatively in 40 eyes among 37 patients who had undergone the SSF technique and in 40 eyes among 32 patients who had undergone in-the-bag IOL fixation.

Results:The mean refractive difference was −0.09±0.55D with SSF and+0.03±0.24D with in-the-bag IOL fixation. No significant difference was found between the two techniques(p=0.1794, Mann-Whitney U Test).

Conclusion:There was no significant difference in the refractive error of patients who underwent SSF compared to those who underwent in-the-bag IOL fixation. The same power can be used in both techniques.
