Abstract Purpose:To present a review of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada(KVH)disease that recurred after initial treatment.

Cases and Method:This study was made on 38 eyes of 19 cases who were diagnosed as VKH disease in the past 5 years. All the cases were followed up for 6 months or over. All the cases received, as the initial treatment, pulsed corticosteroid followed by peroral prednisolone.

Results:VKH recurred in 8 cases(42%)in the present series. Frequency of recurrence ranged from one to five times, average 2.1 times. Interval between the initial treatment and recurrence ranged from 2 to 32 months, average 8.8 months. It recurred in 5 out of 8 cases(60%)within 6 months after onset of the disease. The total amount of prednisolone was significantly greater in cases that showed recurrence than those without recurrence within the initial 6 months(p<0.05). Visual acuity improved after treatment in all the cases. Visual outcome was poorer in eyes with 3 or more recurrences than those with one or 2 recurrences.

Conclusion:Visual outcome in VKH disease was poorer in eyes with 3 or more recurrences after initial treatment.
