Abstract Purpose:To report a one-month-old baby who developed herpetic keratitis.

Case:A 38-day-old male baby presented with hyperemia and discharge in the left eye since 20 days before. He had been born by Caeserean section weighing 2,532 g. Corneal opacity and ulcer had developed after treatment with topical levofloxacin.

Findings and Clinical Course:The left eye showed dendritic keratitis with disciform edema in the corneal stroma. Polymerase chain reaction(PCR)of corneal scraping showed DNA positive for herpes simplex virus. The blood showed high titer of IgM for herpes simplex virus. The findings led to the diagnosis of herpetic keratitis. The corneal lesion disappeared after 2 weeks of treatment with topical and acyclovir with topical fluorometholone.

Conclusion:A one-month-old baby was diagnosed with herpetic keratitis. Treatment with topical and systemic acyclovir appeared to be effective.
