Abstract. Purpose:To report corneal endotheliitis presumably due to varicella-zoster virus(VZV)in a 10-year-old child. Case:A 10-year-old girl presented with pain and hyperemia in the right eye since 5 days before. Findings:Visual acuity was 1.5 in either eye. The right eye showed ciliary injection, localized edema in the lower temporal corneal sector, and keratic precipitates. The findings led to the diagnoses of corneal endotheliitis. Serum VZV-IgM was positive. It became negative after 17 days of antiviral treatments. VZV appeared to be the cause for corneal endotheliitis. Conclusion:This case illustrates that corneal endotheliitis may develop in an apparently healthy child due to VZV. Serum IgM was useful in the diagnosis.
