Abstract. Purpose:To evaluate the usefulness of subtraction skin-electrode electroretinogram(ERG)in pediatric patients with poor vision. Case and Method:53 children underwent subtraction skin-electrode ERG. Mean age was 6.1±2.6 years, ranging from 7 months to 10 years, and the cases comprised 24 males and 29 females. Results:ERG was obtained in 92% of patients, resulting in diagnosis of hereditary retinal disease in 7 cases and functional visual impairment in 6 cases. Cases that failed ERG were under 6 years of age and were difficult for light adaptation or electrode placement. Conclusion:Subtraction skin-electrode ERG was useful in pediatric patients and allowed early diagnosis of hereditary retinal diseases.
