Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of clinical evaluation of SG07,an ophthalmic antimicrobial susceptibility plate which was newly developed to quantitate the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)for bacterial isolates in ocular infection. Cases and Method:This study was made on 98 bacterial strains isolated from 82 patients in 5 institutions. Each institution conducted bacterial culture and identification. All the isolated strains were sent to a center for reevaluation including the use of SG07. A total of 64 strains were tested for drug sensitivity and clinical effect. Results:Eleven strains were evaluated regarding sensitivity to 11 antimicrobial drugs in two institutions. There was a concordance in 84.3%. Drug sensitivity was possible in 32.8% of strains when tested by each of 5 institutions using conventional methods and in 95.3% by SG07. Findings by SG07 served as a better clinical guideline than by routine methods in 43 patients(67.2%). Conclusion:It was possible to quantitate MIC of bacterial isolates from ocular infection by using SG07. SG07 promises to be useful in the treatment of ocular infections.
