We evaluated the corneal astigmatism following implantation of posterior chamber lens (PCL) in 65 eyes. Three sizes of corneoscleral incision were employed: 4 mm 21 eyes, 7 mm 22 eyes and 11 mm 22 eyes. Keratometry was performed postoper-atively up to 12 months.

The corneal astigmatism decreased to stabilize within 3 months after surgery in 5 mm and 7 mm groups. In 11 mm group, the astiamatism continued to decrease even after 12 months. At 12 months, the amount of corneal astigmatism was greater in 11 mm group than the other two. Also, the standard deviation in the amount of astigmatism was lesser the smaller the size of incision. There was a ten-dency for the vertical meridian to be steeper and the horizontal one to be flatter in all the 3 groups. Larger-size incisions tended to accentuate the hori-zontal astigmatism. Smaller incisions would result in lesser postoperative astigmatism, provided the amount of astigmatism is insignificant before sur-gery.
