  • Look Inside

We evaluated the results of posterior chamber lens (PCL) implantation in a consecutive series of 1,000 eyes with particular attention to postsurgical complications.

A total of 95.5% of operated eyes attained pos-toperative visual acuity of 20/40 or more.

Postoperative complications developed in 177 eyes (18%). The complications became manifest within 3 months after surgery in 86% of the cases. The complications had to be surgically treated in 12.4% of the invovled eyes.

There were 42 eyes besides the present series in which anterior chamber lens (ACL) had to be inser-ted due to unintended rupture of the posterior cap-sule dueing KPE procedure. There was no differ-ence between the PCL and ACL groups as regards the postoperative visual acuity and changes in cor-neal endothelial cells.
