  • Look Inside

We observed a 3-year-old male child with developmental delay of retinal vessels in the right eye. The infant was born after 34 weeks gestation weighing 1,850g. He received no oxygen therapy and was free of other congenital defects. Family history was uneventful.

We detected telangiectasis in the temporalretina and a wide avascular area in the periphery in the right eye at 11 weeks. The left eye was normal. Photocoagulation was applied to the telangiectatic area at 16 weeks. After the treated area improved, telangiectasis gradually appeared in the other retinal areas accompanied by white exudates along retinal vessels. No capillary micro-aneurysms had formed during the 2-year follow-up period. Mild telangiectasis and leakage of retinal vessels were seen by fluorescein angiography. While this case showed some similar features with ret-inopathy of prematurity, Coats' disease, familial exudative vitreoretinopathy and other hereditary vitreoretinopathies, it has not been possible to pinpoint the diagnosis.
