  • Look Inside

Two cases of relapsing polychondritis associated with ocular complications are reported. One case, a 61-year-old woman, had a ten-year history of bilateral, recurrent episcleritis and iritis of several days duration. For the recent years she had also suffered from cartilaginous inflammations of the earlobes, larynges and ribs recurring several times a year. The other case, a 41-year-old man, had bilateral, recurrent episcleritis, iritis and optic neuritis preceded or following by episodic car-tilaginous inflammations of the earlobes and hands. The clinical features of these cases were consistent with those of relapsing polychondritis, and labo-ratory examinations of the blood revealed various immunological abnormalities. The incidence of this disease is yet to be elucidated, and four cases have previously been documented in the Japanese ophthalmic literature. A brief review was made on the ocular involvements of relapsing polychon-dritis.
