Most branch retinal vein occlusions occur in the temporal retinal sector and about two-thirds of them occur in the superior-temporal retinal sector. We evaluated the frequency and significance of arteriovenous crossings in 488 normal eyes and 244 eyes with branch retinal vein occlusion. We counted a total of 430 arteriovenous crossings in the superior temporal retinal sector and 289 ones in the inferior temporal sector in the 488 normal eyes. The dis-tance from the disc margin to the arteriovenous crossings averaged 2.27mm and 2.93mm in the superior and inferior temporal sectors respectively.
