  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Trabeculectomy combined with diathermy of the exposed iris and the ciliary body was performed on 5 eyes with neovascular glaucoma. The glaucoma and rubeosis iridis were caused by diabetes mellitus in 4 eyes (4 cases) and by nephropathy in one eye. Satis-factory control of ocular tension resulted in 4 of the 5 operated eyes 6 to 18 months after surgery. One eye had to be enucleated because of severe ocular pain in spite of decreased ocular tension to one-half of presurgical level.

The present procedure is an effective and a safe one as it induces widespread and complete hemosta-sis. Postoperative iritis has been minimum.
