  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

An analysis of the 545 DCR patients treated since 1967 reveals that the chronic dacryocystitis patient is most often a woman over age 30 with no apparent cause. In men, postoperative complications of nasal surgery were a prominent cause.

Occasionally anatomical variations in the relation between the nasal cavity, ethmoidal sinus, and lacrimal sac make DCR unusually difficult. We have classified these variations into three main types from horizonal cross-sectional x-rays made on 83 such cases.
