A bee sting to the eye of a 26-year-old man result-ed in retinal detachment, vitreous opacity and blindness.
The patient, stung by a wasp, developed severe pain in the left eye, headache, nausea and loss of vision. On examination, 3 hours after the injury, corrected visual acuity was 1.2 RE and 50cm finger counting LE. Although palpebral and bulbar conjunctivas were swollen and injected seriously, neither wound on the cornea nor floaters in the anterior chamber could be seen at the initial biomi-croscopic examination. Because of severe pain and general fatigue, ophthalmoscopic examination could not be performed.
