The effect of levarnisole in herpetic stromal keratitis

緒　言

　実質型角膜ヘルペスは難治性で，しかも再発をくり返す予後不良な疾患である。これに対する治療としてIDUおよびsteroid剤が使用されてきたが，臨床的にはむしろ従来みられなかつたような重症化症例の増加する傾向が指摘され，これら薬剤に対する批判的傾向^1,2）が強まつてきている。

　われわれが過去3年間に経験し追跡しえた症例においても，その治療結果は再発をくり返しきわめて不良であつた。

The herpetic stromal keratitis runs a prolonged course and its management is sometimes difficult. Some type of immune mechanism may play an important role in the pathogenesis of this disease. The cellular immunity was investigated by delayed-type skin tests with 5 ordinary anti-gens. It was shown that the patients with this disease had a significantly diminished skin reactivity as compared to normal controls.Immunotherapy with levamisole, an laevo-isomer of tetramisole, was then undertaken for 12 patients with herpetic stromal keratitis.
