緒　言

　1962年Kaufman^1）により新しい抗ウイルス剤としてIDUが開発された。それ以来上皮性角膜ヘルペスといえばIDU点眼を，と反射的とさえもいえるほどにIDU点眼が一般化されてきている。しかし治療の成績をふり返つてみると病変の遷延化および再発する例があるのが現状である。

　今回われわれは上皮性角膜ヘルペスに対し角膜単純擦過法による治療を試み，従来のIDU治療との比較をおこなつたのでその成績を報告する。

Idoxuridine (IDU), widely used for the treatment of epithelial herpes simplex keratitis, somtimes causes adverse reactions, such as follicular con-junctivitis and contact dermatitis of the lids. In this study we compared the effect of IDU with debridement and patching. Seventeen patients were treated with topical IDU, and 10 patients with simple debridement with cotton-tipped ap-plicator. The average time for disappearance of macropunctate staining was 8.7 days in IDU group, and 3.3 days in debridement group. Micropunctate staining disappeared on day 29.8 in average in IDU group, and on day 10.3 in debridement group.
