  • Look Inside

Six cases of scleromalacia following Mitomycin C instillation after pterygium surgery are repor-ted. Five of them were treated by covering the lesion with preserved scleral homograft and fa-vorable results were obtained in all but one, in whom necrotizing scleritis progressed after scleral transplantation until all the sclera was involved and corneal ulcer developed. Scleromalacia due to topical Mitomycin C is an insidiously pro-gressive condition and shows poor tendency for spontaneous healing. Once scleromalacia occurs, it is recommended to bare the affected area and to restore the defect by supplemental tissue.
