  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Ocular signs of 14 cases with acromegaly were examined and Japanese literature on this problem was reviewed.

The most frequent ocular signs were visual disturbance (57%), defect of the visual field (43 %), diplopia (21%), optic nerve atrophy (21%) and diabetic retinopathy (21%). These signs except the last one were based on the pressure of the pituitary tumor to the surrounding tissues, while the last one was induced by secondary diabetes mellitus due to acromegaly. The ocular signs of the secondary systemic diseases due to acromegaly were generally mild.
