Pars Plana Vitrectomy

まえがき

　第29回日本臨床眼科学総会の招待特別講演として，米国のマイアミ大学医学部眼科Ba—scom Palmer Eye InstituteのRobert Machemer教授により「Pars Plana Vitrectomy」（毛様体偏平部硝子体切除術）の講演が行なわれた。当総会長の加藤教授よりMachemer教授に講演原著の執筆を依頼したところ，同教授はすでに同じ内容の原著は英文で発表されているので再び同じ内容のものを執筆することは無意味であることを理由に，了諾が得られなかつた。しかし日本の読者へのよりよい理解のため，その原著の翻訳転載の依頼を行なつたところ，逆に筆者に講演内容の資料をすべて提供するので，紹介記事の形式で執筆するようにと依頼されたので，本文をここに発表するにいたつた。まず，この点についてご了解を得ておきたいと思う。

　講演内容の紹介の前に，同博士の略歴を述べておきたいと思う。

Removal of diseased vitreous and intravitreal preretinal membranes has become possible with the development of miniaturized motor-driven multipurpose instruments. The Vitreous Infusion Suction Cutter (VISC) combines several funct-ions. The vitreous is cut, removed from the and replaced by a balanced salt solution. In-traocular illumination by means of fiber optics, increases the versatility of this procedure.

In this type of microsurgery, a fully automa-ted microscope with fine focus, zoom, and ho-rizontal adjustment capability is needed. Addi-tional special instruments have been developed.
