緒言

　視神経疾患の眼底所見は，乳頭の浮腫，混濁，充血，萎縮が主であり，これに動静脈の走行，充盈状態，白鞘化，あるいは乳頭近傍の網膜所見が加わるにすぎない。そしてその治療は，この限られた検眼鏡的所見を基本に視力，視野などの眼科的検査法と脳神経学的検査法とを組合せて病因を追求し，可及的に原因療法が行なわれる。しかしながら，病因が不明で対症療法に止らざるをえない場合も多い。われわれは，1972年4月兵庫医大眼科開設以来，取扱つてきた，多数の視神経疾患に対し行なつた治療について検討を加えた。

We encountered 375 cases with involvement of the optic nerve out of 10,887 patients during the past 3 and a half year period. These cases were classified into the following entities after thorough neuro-ophthalmological examinations : papillitis (9 cases), acute retrobulbar neuritis (9), chronic retrobulbar neuritis (69), Leber's disease (33), rhinogeneous optic neuritis (9), ischemic optic neuropathy (10), traumatic optic injuries (41), toxic optic neuropathy (16), optic atrophy (91), papilledema (16), brain tumor (68) and miscellaneous (7).
