Abstract. Purpose:To report the current status of eyedrops for glaucoma. Cases and Method:This survey was made on the modality of topical treatment for normal-tension glaucoma(NTG)and primary open-angle glaucoma(POAG)during one week in March 2012 in 42 institutions. Report was obtained on 3,569 patients comprising 1,503 males and 2,066 females. The age ranged from 9 to 100 years, average 67 years. Findings were compared with similar studies made in 2007 and 2009. Results:POAG patients were receiving an average of 1.7±1.0 eyedrops. NTG patients were receiving 1.3±0.7 eyedrops. The difference was significant(p<0.0001). Among medications used as monotherapy for NTG, latanoprost was the most frequent(30.7%), followed by travoprost(12.2%)and tafluprost(8.9%). For POAG, latanoprost was most frequently used(35.3%), followed by travoprost(10.3%)and latanoprost-timolol(10.1%). When two medications were used, prostaglandin combined with beta-blockers was the most frequent. Eyedrops in fixed combination were used for 6.5% of NTG and 15.1% of POAG patients as monotherapy and for 17.8% of NTG and 32.6% of POAG two medications were used. Conclusion:Latanoprost was the most frequently used as a whole either as monotherapy or combination of multiple medications. There were differences in medication between NTG and POAG.
