Abstract. Background:Toxic anterior segment syndrome(TASS)is defined as noninfectious inflammation of the anterior segment that develops soon after intraocular surgery including cataract. Purpose:To report multiple cases of TASS that occurred in rapid succession on consecutive 3 days. Cases:TASS broke out in 4 out of 5 cases of cataract surgery. It occurred in 3 out of 4 cases the next day and in 3 out of 4 cases the following day. All the cases during the 3 days received surgery as the second or later. Utmost care was taken but failed to prevent TASS after the second day. Disorder of air conditioning in the surgical room was suspected as the cause. No TASS occurred after proper maintenance of air conditioning system. Conclusion:TASS may be induced by improper maintenance of air conditioning system in the surgical room.
