Abstract. Purpose:To report the result of fluorescein disappearance test for congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction in infants. Cases and Method:This study was made on 76 infants seen during the past 12 months. The series comprised 44 males and 32 females. The age ranged from 3 to 59 months, average 17 months. Thirty-one infants were examined by irrigation prior to surgery. Results:Irrigation and fluorescein disappearance test showed similar results in 28 out of 33 sides(85%). Irrigation was possible in 4 out of 30 sides(13%)in cases positive for fluorescein disappearance test. In cases with negative irrigation, 5 out of 30 sides(17%)did not have congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction. Conclusion:Sensitivity of fluorescein disappearance test was 95% for congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction in infants. False positive rate was 30%.
