Abstract. Purpose:To report recent trends after introduction of electronic recording system in ophthalmology. Method:This study was made on 4,700 cases during 12 months after introduction of electronic recording system into department of ophthalmology,Saga University Hospital,in March 2008. Particular attention was made regarding disuse of recording on paper and transfer of data on paper to electronic system. Results:Recording of clinical data was totally made by electronic system in 14.9% of cases 6 months and in 40.0% of cases 12 months after introduction of the system. The waiting time decreased by an average of 8.8 minutes for each outpatient. There were limitations in the effort to shift written data to the electronic recording system. Conclusion:Written clinical recording became discarded at the rate of 3.3% per month after introduction of electronic recording system in ophthalmology. Considerable time will be necessary before complete shift to electronic recording system.
