Abstract. Purpose:To investigate the current status and problems about the card-type electronic patient record developed by us. Method:Instead of ready-made system for ophthalmology, we added a flexible user interface layer to the electronic patient record system of our hospital. Each terminal consists of two, 21-inch tablet type and 17-inch liquid crystal, monitors with a keyboard to be operated by a mouse or a pen. Results:For a new outpatient, it took an average of 18 seconds to enter data into the system. Cooperation with other sections of the hospital became smoother due to improved disclosure. Conclusion:An electronic patient record system was introduced by adding a flexible user interface layer to the electronic patient record system of our hospital instead of using ready-made system for ophthalmology section. This system was easy to operate without lowering the efficiency of clinical activity.
