Abstract. Purpose:To report changes in the length of hospital stay and admission charges after transition from paper-based to electronic clinical pathway(CP). Objects and Method:This study was made on 215 patients who received surgery as in-patients during a 12-month period. Paper-based CP was used in the first 6 months and electronic CP in the latter. Seven versions of CP were used:monocular or bilateral cataract surgery, trabeculectomy, scleral buckling, vitreous surgery for retinal detachment or diabetic retinopathy, and vitreous surgery for other diseases. Cases were excluded that needed repeat surgery or use of CP was discontinued for some reasons. Results:Length of hospital stay was longer in patients receiving electronic CP for glaucoma surgery or scleral buckling procedure. There was no difference between paper-based and electronic CP regarding admission charges in the hospital. Conclusion:There was no difference in hospital admission charges after transition from paper-based to electronic clinical pathway.
