要約　目的：白内障手術前の患者の結膜囊内に常在する細菌叢と薬剤感受性の報告。対象と方法：明らかな外眼部感染症がない術前患者219例324眼を検索した。女性207眼，男性117眼で，年齢は53～92歳（平均74歳）であった。下眼瞼結膜の擦過物を培養した。結果：77眼（23.8％）から菌が検出され，総株数は84株であった。グラム陽性球菌が40株（47.6％），グラム陰性桿菌が34株（40.5％）であった。コアグラーゼ陰性ブドウ球菌（CNS）が31株（36.9％）で検出され，その多くは通常の抗菌薬に高い感受性があった。結論：白内障手術では，術前に結膜囊内の細菌叢を検索し，その結果を個々の症例に応用することが望ましい。

Abstract.　Purpose：To report the bacterial flora in the conjunctival sac before cataract surgery. Cases and Method：This retrospective study was made on 324 eyes of 219 patients scheduled for cataract surgery. The series comprised 117 male and 207 female eyes. The age ranged from 53 to 92 years,average 74 years. Scrapings from lower palpebral conjunctiva were cultured and examined. Results：Bacterial organisms were isolated from 77 eyes（23.8％）comprising 84 strains. They included 40 gram-positive strains（47.6％）and 34 gram-negative ones（40.5％）. The majority of them were sensitive to commonly used antibiotics. Conclusion：The findings illustrate the importance of examining the bacterial flora before cataract surgery as a guide in prevention or treatment whenever needed.
