Abstract. Purpose:To report a case who developed hyphema following implantation of intraocular lens(IOL). Albuminous membrane had formed in front of IOL when removed 17 days later. Case:A 59-year-old female presented with subretinal hemorrhage in her right eye and was diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration. Vitreous hemorrhage developed 8 days later. She received vitrectomy,phacoemulsification-aspiration,and IOL implantation another 8 days later. Massive choroidal hemorrhage was present necessitating intravitreal silicone oil. IOL had to be removed 17 days later due to persistent hyphema. The removed IOL showed a taut membrane adherent to the anterior surface. Analysis of the membrane ruled out the possibility of fibrin and showed infrared spectrum simulating bovine serum albumin. Conclusion:The observed membrane adherent to IOL appears to contain albumin and to have derived from hyphema.
