Abstract. Purpose:To discuss therapeutic options for advanced choroidal melanoma. Cases:This study was made on 5 cases of choroidal malignant melanoma. The series comprised 4 males and one female. They were aged 53,56,65,76 and 90 years respectively. The melanoma was 10 mm or more in diameter. Three cases opted for observation only, one received endoresection, and one was treated by radiotherapy with carbon ion heavy particle. Cases were followed up for 5 to 17 months. Results:Two out of 3 cases who opted for observation had to receive enucleation for acute painful attack of glaucoma. The other case died 10 months later due to other cause. The eyeglobe could be preserved in one case for 17 months after endoresection and in the other case for 5 months until present after radiation of heavy particle Conclusion:Duration of survival does not differ between enucleation and nonenucleation for advanced choroidal malignant melanoma. Patients ought to be well-informed regarding therapeutic options before making final decision.
