Abstract. Purpose:To report a bilateral case of acute zonal occult outer retinopathy(AZOOR)with improvement in the impaired rod function. Case:A 34-year-old female presented with photopsia and impaired visual field defect in her right eye since 10 days before. Findings:Corrected visual acuity was 1.5 in either eye. Both eyes were free of abnormal findings in the anterior segment, optic media or the fundus. Goldmann perimetry showed paracentral scotoma and defect in the inferior sector in the right eye. The blind spot was enlarged in the left eye. Ganzfeld electroretinography(ERG)showed impaired cone and rod function. Multifocal electroretinography showed reduced responses in areas of impaired visual field. These findings led to the diagnosis of AZOOR. Rod function improved and cone function remained impaired 7 months after onset. Conclusion:This case illustrates that cone and rod function may differ in the course of recovery after episode of AZOOR.
