Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of surgery for recurrent pterygium by amniotic membrane transplantation(AMT)with or without limbal transplantation of allograft(LT). Cases and Method:This study was made on 26 eyes of 25 patients who received surgery for recurrent pterygium in the past 7 years. The series comprised 7 males and 18 females. The age averaged 68 years. Symblepharon was present in 15 eyes. Six eyes were treated by AMT and 20 eyes by AMT and LT. Results:During one year after surgery, pterygium recurred in 2 out of 6 eyes(33%)treated by AMT and in one out of 20 eyes treated by AMT and LT. Symblepharon recurred in one out of one eye(100%)in the former group and in 5 out of 14 eyes(36%)in the latter. There were no complications throughout. Conclusion:AMT was effective for recurrent pterygium after one year of follow-up. Concomitant LT was more effective.
