Abstract. Purpose:To compare the outcome of LASIK using a corneal flap made by microkeratome and femtosecond laser. Method:A total of 142 eyes received LASIK. Corneal flap was made by microkeratome in 76 eyes and by femtosecond laser in 66 eyes. Visual acuity, refraction, accuracy of correction, contrast sensitivity and higher-order aberrations were evaluated 6 months after treatment. Results:There was no significant difference in visual acuity and accuracy of correction between the two groups. Contrast sensitivity improved in both groups. Increase in higher-order and spherical aberration was significantly smaller in eyes treated by femtosecond laser. Conclusion:LASIK using corneal flap made by femtosecond laser resulted in fair outcome and lesser increase in higher-order aberration.
