Abstract Purpose:To analyze the refractive outcomes after femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery vs. manual cataract surgery.

Subjects and Method:We reviewed the medical records of 562 eyes of 430 cases who received cataract surgery(100 femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgeries:FLACS or 462 manual cataract surgeries:MCS)without combined surgery at Baptist Eye Institute and Shijo-karasuma Komuro Eye Clinic from January 2017 to the end of December 2017. We compared the refractive outcomes between FLACS and MCS at one month after surgery. We performed multivariate statistical analysis of refractive outcomes after adjusting for age, mean radius of cornea, ocular axial length, kinds of intraocular lens.

Results:The mean absolute refractive errors at one month after cataract surgery were 0.48±0.36D and 0.43±0.44D in FLACS and MCS groups respectively(p=0.36, paired t-test). The proportion of refractive error within ±0.5D and±1.0D were 65.0% and 68.6% in FLACS 89.0% and 92.6% in MCS, respectively. There was no statistical difference in FLACS and MCS(p=0.22, 0.48, chi-square test). In multivariate analysis, refractive error was not significantly associated with femtosecond laser use.

Conclusion:Refractive error was not significantly associated with femtosecond laser use.
