Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of optic neuritis following influenza infection. Case:A 23-year-old male presented with acute visual loss in the right eye. He had had fever 2 days before. Rapid diagnostic kit showed influenza A. He had been treated by oseltamivir perorally. He had been diagnosed with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody(ANCA)-related nephritis 8 years before and been receiving peroral prednisolone. Findings:His corrected visual acuity was no light perception right and 1.0 left. Both eyes showed swelling of optic disc. Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)showed swelling of right optic nerve. Peroral or pulsed corticosteroid was ineffective. Right visual acuity spontaneously improved to 0.3 four months later associated with constricted visual field. Clinical findings have remained stable for 3 years until present. Conclusion:Influenza infection may have induced acute optical neuritis in the present case.
