  • Look Inside

An 11-year-old girl had an attack of unconsciousness followed by temporary aphasia and paralysis of right fingers. She had another episode of generalized epilepsy starting with seizure of left extremities. Temporary attenuation of right internal carotid artery was identified by cerebral angiography. Her right visual acuity decreased to hand motion 2 weeks later, leading to the diagnosis of optic neuritis. The visual acuity recovered gradually following pulsed corticosteroid therapy. Generalized seizure occurred 6 months later followed by right optic neuritis. Left ipsilateral hemianopia developed one year later. Cerebrovascular spasm appeared to have induced the observed stroke-like episodes. Abnormal autoimmunity was suspected but could not be confirmed in this patient.
