Abstract. Purpose:To report the long-term outcome and problems of orthokeratology in the treatment of myopia. Cases:This retrospective study was made on 113 eyes of 58 patients who were treated by orthokeratology during the past 42 months. Results:Unaided visual acuity improved to 1.0 or over in 96 eyes(85%). Improvement in visual acuity set in soon after start of treatment. Treatment was discontinued in 17 eyes of 9 patients(15%). Early discontinuation was due to diplopia, photophobia, or insufficient improvement in visual acuity. Late discontinuation was due to corneal erosion, diminished effect secondary to damage to the lens, or decreased duration of fitting. Conclusion:The patients must be sufficiently informed that the effect of orthokeratology may not be permanent.
